3040C FLOORSTANDERS FROM Q ACOUSTICS (REVIEW)
21st October 2026

The British audio outfit offers its latest 3000c series release, Paul Rigby listens to the 3040c
And like the rest of the 3000c family, the core of the design is the C³ (pronounced ‘C-cubed’) Continuous Curved Cone mid/bass driver.

You don’t get just the one, of course, there are two 120mm mid/bass drivers that sit above and below the 22mm tweeter that is itself a ‘floating’ design, hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the baffle.

This so-called D’Appolito driver configuration looks to improve the directivity and dispersion of sound waves from the speaker, hopefully resulting in a more accurate and detailed soundstage.

A bass port is situated on the rear of the cabinet to enhance the sonics while inside, P2P (Point to Point) bracing is fitted to enhance the rigidity of the cabinet.

Reportedly, this reinforcement should also enhance the stereo image but we’ll see.

To prevent unwanted standing waves and colouration, Q Acoustics has also installed HPE (Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser) tubes that have been fitted inside the cabinet.
DOMINATE? NOT
Four finishes are available: Satin Black, Satin White, Pink Oak and Claro Walnut.
Solid aluminium stabilisers with top-adjustable spikes for levelling are included in the box.

Spanning 942 x 285 x 281mm and weighing in at 14.6kg per speaker, the sensitivity for these 6 Ohm speakers is 88db. You’re looking at an amplifier with a minimum of 25W to run the 3040cs.

On the back, is a low-profile terminal panel with recessed binding posts. Take note too of the footprint and cabinet size. These are relatively small floorstanders that won’t dominate your living room. Well, not too much anyhow.

And that’s basically tech spec for the Q Acoustics 3040c floorstanding speakers but the question is this: how do they sound? Well, let’s have a listen.
SOUND QUALITY
To begin I brought in the CD version of Regards from Chuck Pink via finger-picking man, Leo Kottke.
VS DALI KUPID
To begin, I brought in my Dali Kupid stand-mounted speakers priced at £299. An odd choice on the face of it. Why compare the 3040c speakers to the Dalis? Because the Kupids are excellent designs in their own right, received a 9/10 from me when reviewed, display wonderful detail and great bass for the cabinet size. I wondered if the extra cash spent on the 3040c design was actually worth it?
I thought so, yes. Of course, the highlight, even on this track, was the bass from the 3040c speakers which provided a great foundation from this track, even though acoustic instruments dominated.

The retiring and rather shy, brushed drums were notable in providing pace to the rhythm. Keeping the music moving, never dragging.
Meanwhile bass resonances from the bass strings on the acoustic offered more weight than the Kupids could provide.

Speaking of which, during the early part of the track, I Yell At Traffic, the acoustic guitar descended down the sonic scale. I noted that the 3040c speakers managed to keep control of the scale as those bass frequencies kicked in. The Kupids, in comparison, did lose a little precision at this point adding midrange blur while the Q Acoustics kept that clarity right across the span of the scale, the strings also offered a steel shine to the presentation.
VS Q ACOUSTICS 3050i
The big test was to pit the new 3040c floor standers with the similar, yet older and still highly capable 3050i floor standers, also from Q Acoustics. Slightly larger in cabinet size both in height and depth with the same driver layout, I wondered how the new 3040c models would cope.

Software-wise? I turned to vinyl and the Seal’s self-titled album from 1991.

So how did the 3040c speakers cope? Surprisingly well, actually. I thought bass via the 3040c model was more characterful, for a start. There was more going on, more information for each and every hit. The 3050i speakers averaged out the strike so that each bass strike was a solid tone. The 3040c strikes had a more informative crunch.
I thought the mids and treble were better integrated into the bass frequencies too, providing a tighter and balanced output.

During the middle eight, there were several machine gun-like, laser strikes that added deep bass impact. While the the 3050i speakers provided bigger bass sounds with deeper bass weight, the 3040c speakers offered precision and funky vibes because the 3040c speakers were the more coherent pairing of the two.
The 3050i models also had a certain disconnect, when compared to the 3040c. That is, you had the vocals and the bass, then there was a gap and then the rest of the soundstage appeared, which remained very detailed but was stuck onto the rear with Blu-tak. The 3040c speakers had a better organised soundstage. Thus music flowed more easily, offering greater soul and emotion.
CONCLUSION
Frankly, it’s hard to think of a pair of better designed and better sounding floorstanding speakers at this price point than the Q Acoustics 3040cs. Yes they have excellent midrange detail, delicate treble and punchy bass but the 3040cs are much more than a box-ticking exercise. The wonder of the 3040c models is how all of those features integrate with one another in a seamless manner providing a sonic canvas that is full of spirit and passion combined with that essential control.

The Q Acoustics 3040c speakers? Every home should have one….or two, in this case.
