The latest Music Magazine for you on Youtube including vinyl news, book review and CD reviews.

NOTE: This video was completed at the same time as the last video on the VPI Prime Scout so – I’m afraid – it comes at you with one channel missing. Apologies. I was tweaking my microphone, plugged it in but only later found that the plug could be pushed again, on another step. So frustrating! Back to normal next time around. Promise.

Hi Paul, love your work. Much appreciated as I look to purchase my first turntable. Thanks to your quality reviews, I’m tossing up between the Pro-Ject Debut Pro and the NAD588. Can you tell me the difference in quality between these two. Does one outperform the other? NADs aluminium sub platter, pointed feet and ACDCAC power arrangement sound promising. The Pro sounds very well resolved and toner arm looks great. If I’m guessing the NAD looks like it influenced the Pro’s design. Can you compare the tone arms and sound quality, and please make any other comments that occur?

I haven’t been able to compare the two, Ben. The 588 was first on the scene but I doubt there’s been any influence either way. This is a NAD creation using a unique combination of Pro-Ject parts. I’ve never seen the combo elsewhere, anyhow. NAD knew what they were doing though because the combo produced a fine sonic result. It’s a worthy turntable design. From memory – that’s all I have to offer here – both sound excellent. You won’t be disappointed with either, I reckon. Any differences will be fine line stuff so I’d go for the best deal, the one you like the look of, the one you can get shipped to you without as much hassle…those kind of things.
