Excel Sound feature a diamond cantilever and new OKD Moving Coil Generator for this flagship design

First up, that newly developed “OKD” generator for the Umami features an Integrated Pole Piece and Rear Yoke together with an Inverted U-shaped Front Yoke, to optimise energy transfer from the Microline stylus/diamond cantilever to the moving coil system. It reportedly minimises magnetic power loss while suppressing vibrations.

The U-shaped inverted front yoke is engineered for both mechanical resonance control and magnetic field alignment.

The neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnet is also used to maximise energy conversion.

A 2mm square hybrid Carbon permalloy armature is hand-wound with copper wire while the body includes an Urushi lacquer finish, applied through a specialised thermosetting process, bonding to the aluminium body via vapour deposition.

Out now, price for the Umami is £7,995. In my experience, that is actually cheap for a diamond cantilever cartridge (and yes, that cantilever makes all the difference, never mind the rest of the tech).
