SOUND BURGER IS BACK!
1st November 2022
Audio-Technica, the creator of the original Sound Burger, has officially reissued this iconic portable record player
As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, Audio-Technica has brought back the legendary portable Sound Burger, with added Bluetooth.
The Sound Burger returns after 40 years with the same aesthetic but adding new tech – including a USB-C port for charging. That battery lasts for 12 hours while your vinyl runs on a die-cast aluminium alloy platter.
The updated record player is a belt-drive, twin-speed system. It runs with the aid of a dynamic balance system that sees pressure applied to the stylus via a spring. The whole thing is powered by a DC motor.
The cartridge looks like a typical 3600 model with a conical stylus.
While this record player is a portable design, the inclusion of an RCA audio cable as well as Bluetooth means that it can be hooked up to a home stereo or speaker system either wired or wirelessly.
Out now, price is £200 or €229.

This made my day. I have one of the original ones and will order the refresh as soon as I can find it for sale. It doesn’t appear to be on the manufacturer’s web site yet.
Glad I helped your morale there Joseph 🙂 I was rather happy too. I think it’s a wonderful little thing and if it helps more people to listen to vinyl then I’m all for it. I too have an original. The ‘release’ date is slated as today so I’d advise a bit of patience in case of the usual Internet-related delays. If I get any more info, I’ll add a note in the Comments here.
Thanks my friend. If by chance you ever fly to the US and find yourself in the Orlando, FL area (Disney heaven), then you must stop by for coffee, tea or an adult beverage. Dinner of course is on me. It would be great to meet you in person and swap some stories.
Well that’s very kind of you, Joesph. Thank you.
Jap website claims orders will be accepted from Monday 7th November, hoping there’s UK or EU distro at least to cut back on the import taxes attached
Thanks for the update, Andy. I expect a UK outlet will be in place. I say that because I received my info from a UK PR chap. Which indicates to me that a UK ‘buy’ source will be offered too.
I’ve just noted the lack of headphone ports on this new version which is a shame in terms of portability and footprint (this new version demands you add a pair of speakers) but, then again, the lack of a head amp may mean an improvement in overall sound due a lower noise floor. An external mini head amp (again helps the sound) might be in order so budget for that if phones are your thing.
Just went on sale in the US. Already placed my order.

Thanks for the update, Joesph. Audio-Technica is producing some fascinating limited-edition ‘birthday’ releases. Some are very expensive – this is true! Saying that, this one – numbered, let’s not forget – is much more affordable of course.
True. I’m strangely tempted by the design of the AT-LP2022, but have no idea how it will really perform. I’m still using a Fluance RT85, but I’m ready to start stepping into something more robust. This would be a small step, compared to the $5k turntables I’ve been looking at.
