LOOK MA! NO ARM! WAITING FOR IDEAS
11th July 2025

I’m a little late to this one but wanted to mention it in case you might have missed it too. From the Paris-based company, Waiting for Ideas comes a new turntable. With no tonearm
The PP-1 has been machined from a single block of aluminium with the unit powered by a USB 5V connector.

The turntable features an internal phono amplifier while a 3.5mm socket will accept a pair of headphones.

To play your vinyl you put the side you want to hear, face down. Then an upside down stylus – presumably set within a cartridge of some sort although details on that are scant – reads the grooves.

A protective cover protects the concealed cartridge, that cover opens during play.

The turntable itself will work out if you’re playing 12”, 10” or 7” discs. How it senses the vinyl size is unclear at this point.

Can it stand upright? Apparently yes. Price? £5,091.53. But talk to the company first because they make these units to order. Thus be prepared to wait. If you order now, expect deliver around October 2025.
