HW-40 Anniversary Edition From VPI
18th December 2018
The HW-40 features a 11.34kg platter and VPI’s original direct drive motor design enhanced by motion control circuitry, vibration and isolation technology
The HW-40 motor coils are composed in a solid copper square cross-section wire embedded in a composite structure.
It also has high torque, “…excellent cooling and near optimal interaction with electromagnetic conductors within the magnetic rotor circuit,” said the company.
The 2-speed HW-40’s motor has an iron-less coil assembly and avoids the use of magnetic materials.
Combined with overlapping V-shaped coil construction, the HW-40 motor claims to eliminate cogging.
The black aluminium chassis, with gloss good sides is damped internally with an MDF plate and comes with a removable aluminium arm-board.
The removable hinged dust cover also reveals a 12″ gimbal 3D printed Fat-Boy tonearm featuring Japanese ABEC 9 bearings and an adjustable tonearm counterweight on a threaded shaft.
