CD NEWS: 18 JULY 2023 (YOUTUBE)
18th July 2023
Blimey, I’m rather behind on my CD coverage so here’s a dozen that have been sitting on a tottering pile on my desk. Lots of musical genres – music for everyone you might say. Hope you like them!

I am not going to complain because I like what you are doing- however for my tastes too wordy. If you could jump right in & tell me about the CD/music that would be great. Nevertheless less I am still on board.
Yes, as I said in the vid. I need to trim. But I tend to learn by doing. And I ‘do’ and make mistakes in public. So you see the evolution.
Hi Paul,
First off, thank you for the ongoing discussion and important information with regard to the matter of CD playback and the format in general. Your comments and reviews are appreciated and like a breath of fresh air in the fog of streaming. For that effort, thank you very much.
I would like to bring to your attention that Schiit Audio has just finally released their long awaited CD transport. It features their “Unison USB” connection along with traditional SPDIF co-axial, optical & XLR-AES sockets as well. In light of your somewhat recent post on another product, you might want to reach out to them and try their transport. It might be an opportunity to try their D/A converters as well and compare them to the Benchmark. Your review of the Audiolab 9000 transport in comparison to the older 6000 was the most comprehensive review of any transport that I have read/seen over the years.
Thanks, again, for your work here. It’s much appreciated.
Best regards,

Thanks for your kind words, John and also for the heads up. I am in regular touch with the UK distributor so I will have a chat with him about this one – thanks again.
Thanks for the quick reply. Your reviews of digital products are pretty much spot on. I am in the beginning stages of rebuilding my digital front end and I’m looking at transport s and converters. I’m curious as to what you are currently using for CD Redbook playback. I hav no interest in SACD and as for streaming, it will only be for casual play for the purposes of listening to new music. I view the streaming as a contemporary FM source as an example.
Thanks for the ongoing work and insight. You , my friend, are a port in the storm in HiFi land…Best regards…John
Hi John – my preference is a separate transport and DAC connected via a coax cable. Separating components reduces the noise floor, brings out more subtle detail, etc. It also allows to to maximise component quality. And you are a very nice man 🙂 Thank you for your kind comments.
Paul…Thanks again for your time…are you still using the Benchmark DAC along with the Audiolab 9000? Just curious…John
Yes, I am, John.
