Xavian Calliope speakers: Floorstander designs on a firm foundation
17th June 2017
First seen at Prague Audio Video Show and, later the Munich High End Show 2017, these new floor standers are dripping with Maple and Walnut
In fact, the speaker cabinet is hand-made using 23mm ‘massive’ walnut or maple wood with walnut inserts combining a sort of bitumen composite to aid damping.
In an effort to establish a sense of speaker stability and floor coupling, the Calliope speakers are fitted with stone bases made of Italian Travertino or Czech dark grey granite.
Drivers include a 175 mm AudioBarletta bass driver featuring an impregnated paper membrane, die cast basket with a 50mm voice coil.
The 175mm Mid Bass Driver is another AudioBarletta model, also with an impregnated paper membrane, polymeric integrated phase plug and high sensitivity, copper clad flat aluminium wire.
Lastly, the AudioBarletta 29mm soft dome treble unit has a ceramic magnet.
The ‘Fase Zero’ designed crossover utilises parallel and series topology, Mundorf components, army-grade resistors and oil capacitors.
The rear offers two pairs of gold-plated Xavian binding posts.
Spanning 1050 x 236 x 282mm, the speakers weigh 49kg each. Price to follow.

Nice change away from the black box. Bi wired/amped sound difference?
Wish I could tell you, Dave. Haven’t been able to grab a pair as yet.
Indeed a really nice design
