Audeze LCD-i4: In-Ear Version to the LCD-4
19th May 2017
Weighing 12g per ear, the earphones have been designed and assembled at Audeze’s California factory, a joint effort with strategic partner Design works, a BMW Group Company
The LCD-i4 uses the same 0.5-micron thick diaphragm as the LCD-4: so thin, says the company, that it’s about the width of a white blood cell.
This one fact has been pushed around the hi-fi media like…well a virus, I suppose. So, whenever you see a a news item, you’ll get the blood cell yada, yada.
All I can add to the “Ooos” and “Ahhhhs” is that the red blood cell is around three times smaller and, hence, probably thinner still, so don’t you let any hi-fi dealer try to con you with incorrect cell biology sales pitches, eh? Others, give Trading Standards a call. Tell them I sent ya!
In addition to all of this, Audeze adds its focused magnet technology, Fluxor and Uniforce voice-coil technology.
Audeze adds more strength to its iSINE-style housing by using a magnesium outer half. A single 30mm driver offers an impedance of 35 Ohms.
Completing the new LCD-i4 package is a new braided cable made of silver-plated OCC copper with Kevlar threads which is then cryogenically treated. Optional cables terminated in 4-pin XLR and 2.5mm TRRS balanced will be available soon.
The LCD-i4 will be available from late June, price is £2,399.
