That’s a super review for a product from a small , friendly company
Thanks Ian 🙂
I recently had problems with my 2M black cartridge. There was a distortion on playback, which I assumed to be a worn stylus. I purchased said stylus but the problems continued. I decided to investigate and to my horror two of the pins pulled out of the cartridge, rendering it useless. Ortofon were no help at all. In the end I found I just couldn’t have faith in the Ortofon cartridges, and went for a Sumiko Olympia, just to have something reliable. I’m so disappointed with the build quality of the Ortofon around the pin area. When you spend upwards of £500 on a cartridge, I think you’re entitled to a little more robustness.
Hi Wayne – the retailer you bought the cartridge from, couldn’t they help you out? Was the issue after a recent purchase or was it down a line a bit?
I have a moving magnet Accession which I bought on eBay. It came without a PSU1, but the seller had warned of this. I had a Russ Andrews Power Supplier (care! it needs to have 24v output rather than the more normal 12v), and the combination works very well. I have a PSU1 which I find to be about where the RA Supplier is, so I am now thinking very hard about the Enigma version which should sound better than the supplier. Money is tight for an 80 year old retiree, hence “thinking very hard”… I’ll let you know how this develops.
Thanks Bob and yes, please do keep me informed on your progress or otherwise
Hi Paul, no it’s about 7-8yrs old so no chance of that, or even repair.
Ahhh, I see. Sorry to hear about the, Wayne.
Hey Paul – this review is great timing for me! I’ve been thinking about upgrading my entry level Graham Slee MM phono amp for a while now. It’s done a fine job for a fair few years but has quickly become the weakest part of the system following several upgrades to the amp, speakers and turntable in the last 18 month (almost entirely inline with your reviews and recommendations I’d like to add – thank you…). How would you compare the Accession with PSU2 to the TRICHORD DINO MK.3 PHONO AMPLIFIER including UPGRADES which you thought very highly of when reviewed last year.
Both are excellent, you won’t be disappointed with either. I’ve probably lean towards the GS though with that improved power brick.
Both are excellent but I’d lean to the GS phono with that upgraded power supply
