SL-1210GAE Limited Edition From Technics

28th May 2020

There will be 700 all-black SL-1210GAE 55th, badged anniversary models released into Europe (1,000 in all) complete with a unique “tuned” JT-1210 cartridge from Nagaoka

Based on the Grand Class SL-1200G, it features a full black colour scheme, 10mm-thick aluminium top panel, while the operation buttons and tonearm are also in black.

The top panel features a special badge, inscribed with the unique serial number to signify that it is a 55th anniversary model.

Technics has also collaborated with Nagaoka, which also happens to be celebrating.

Specifically, its 80th anniversary, this year.

The SL-1210GAE is supplied with the Moving Magnet JT-1210 cartridge that was specifically tuned by a joint team of engineers from Technics and Nagaoka. The JT-1210 features a Boron cantilever.

It will only be available together with the SL-1210GAE turntable.

Other features include the inclusion of a zinc insulator called αGEL, a soft gel-like material also used on the SL-1000R reference turntable.

You can also turn off the strobe light. Useful for low-light listening conditions.

The new model includes the coreless direct-drive motor to eliminate cogging, precision motor control technology (developed for Blu-ray devices), a three-layered platter construction with a rigidly combined brass top-plate, an aluminium die cast core platter and a solid rubber coating…

…a ‘balance’ check at the factory labelled with a sticker reading “Balanced” to indicate that individual adjustment has been done, lightweight magnesium tonearm and brass-milled and gold-plated terminals.

Price is £3,999.

Expect a June 2020 release date.
