NOVAFiDELITY X50: It’s a Digital Workhorse

The X50 is the latest in the NOVAFiDELITY X-Series range. This is a pure digital music server with database, CD ripper and network streamer

It sports DDR-1066 1GB Main Memory and 8GB and Flash Memory and run from a Dual Core ARM Cortex A9 processor running at 1GHz. In terms of storage? It is RAID supported for up to 12TB with high speed internal data processing for backup, copy and the rest. In terms of supported file formats, the X50 can handle 24bit/192Khz WAV, FLAC files as well as DSD64, DSD128, DSD256 via DSD to I²S hardware conversion.

A customised remote control app is available for iOS and Android while the unit itself offers a 178mm TFT LCD (1024×600 pixels) screen. There is a HDMI Out Connector for an external screen.

But that’s not all. The X50 includes a DAB+/FM Tuner, CD ripping capability with CD metadata and album cover art and an Airplay function for iOS devices. Music services supported include: TIDAL, Deezer, Qobuz, Airable and Spotify Connect.

For networking? You have access to Samba Server/Client and UPnP (DLNA) Server/Client/Media Renderer for streaming playback and control remotely via network.

Connections include two I²S outs (HDMI, RJ45), Coaxial out, two optical outs plus a AES/EBU/XLR. There’s a 12V Trigger in/out, Word Clock, USB for connecting to a USB DAC. Two USB 3 ports are fixed in the rear.

Spanning 441 x 330 x 100mm, the typical price is from £1,995 for an X50 with 2TB of storage.
