Magico S7, addition to the S-Series line

21st August 2015

Magico, has announced a new addition to the S-Series line, the S7, a full range, three-way design, floor standing loudspeaker that incorporates a new tweeter, midrange and bass driver designs which are derived from the M- Project loudspeaker.

The acoustic suspension enclosure of the S7 features curved aluminium side panels, machined in-house from half-inch thick aluminium extrusions which are 406mm in diameter. Internal bracing is positioned throughout the enclosure to minimise resonances.

The S7 houses three new 254mm bass drivers. The excursion rate of the voice coil is measured at 15mm linear movement. The midrange driver (152mm) cone material is formulated using Arkem a multi-wall carbon nanotube and XG Sciences C-750 Nanographene which combined is 20% lighter and 300% stiffer than previous cone material designs. The underhung neodymium base motor system uses two extra-large magnets and pure titanium voice coil. The driver operates in a purpose built sub-enclosure made of a proprietary polymer material that was first introduced in the S3.

A new 25mm tweeter features a diamond-coated beryllium diaphragm with optimised geometry, created using Finite Element analysis modelling tools. This purpose built tweeter has extra-long excursion movement and uses a neodymium based motor system that is customised to match the sensitivity and power handling capabilities of the S7.

All five drivers in the S7 are acoustically integrated using Magico’s Elliptical Symmetry Crossover topology that includes components from Mundorf of Germany.
