ONElinear From Cyrus: Designed to Partner the ONE

Cyrus Audio has announced the new ONElinear stereo loudspeaker, designed to partner with the Cyrus ONE amplifier

“Designing a loudspeaker optimised for a particular amplifier topology confers a significant advantage on the engineer, enabling them to fully understand the behaviour of the complete system, rather then just the loudspeaker in isolation,” said Cyrus.

So, yes, this is a pair of speakers aimed at a single amp. That’s not to say that it won’t work well with other amps – I hasten to add – but it is targeted at Cyrus’ ONE amplifier.

The ONElinear is a compact bookshelf using a Kevlar bass driver and soft-dome tweeter with a traditional ‘linear’ acoustic response.

And just why has the company decided to match its ONE amp with a new pair of speakers? “…most loudspeakers at the £300-500 price point bottom out quite quickly with the Cyrus ONE as it’s got so much power. The consequence was that we ended up demoing the Cyrus ONE with much more expensive speakers to effectively demonstrate what the Cyrus ONE is really capable of.”

The speakers are priced at £350 a pair but you can buy them with ONE amplifier as a sort of package deal for £1,048 (Cyrus did say that you may find that retailers soften that price to around £999).

I hope to grab a pair of the speakers for review to test how well the speakers and ONE match. As well as other amps, of course. Where’s that Brio…?
