Astell&Kern AK70 MKII: dual-DAC edition

25th September 2017

Astell&Kern has introduced a MKII version of its AK70 portable music player

As well as moving from a single to dual-DAC design, the MKII includes a range of other upgrades, including more powerful amplification, reduced jitter and a higher-capacity battery.

These extra features come with minimal extra bulk. The AK70 MK II is slighter heavier than the AK70 – 150g compared to 132g – and just a touch larger.

Supporting up to 24bit/192kHz and DSD, the unit also features balanced and standard 3.5mm outputs plus 64GB of internal memory and a micro SD slot for further expansion (264GB+).

Wi-Fi connectivity and the AK Connect App enables network streaming that includes Tidal music streaming support. Bluetooth support also allows you to wirelessly stream to headphones/speakers.

Including a 84mm touch screen and a chassis machined from a block of aluminium, the finish is in two-tone black. Price is £599.
